A Look Around You | Image of The Week

This week I had the rare pleasure of having to 'properly' photograph Mrs Iwan Jones for a nice magazine feature - stylist, make up and everything, as opposed to me just harassing her with my camera phone.

Those closest always make for interesting subjects.  As a portrait photographer you have an idea of what you want to project with each of your images, which may or may not be an accurate representation of the subject, but it's the photographers interpretation given the usually limited circumstance.  I find when photographing loved ones that the idea I wish  to project is crystal clear, which rather than making the photography easier usually makes it much more difficult to realise.

The portrait above is an out-take. Not quite right for the magazine layout, but still, an image I love because it mirrors part of the emotion I experience with my Better Better Wife. I would say 'one to show the grandchildren', but given that the article is about choosing the child-free lifestyle, perhaps not.
