Tata Steel Works
The imposing Tata Steel worksite at Port Talbot, Photographed for the Financial Times a few weeks back. As I entered the steelworks, I was immediately struck by the noise and intense heat emanating from the various machines and furnaces. The air was filled with the smell of molten metal and burning coal, and the ground beneath my feet vibrated with the power of the machinery. I couldn't help but notice the Mordor similarities, especially within the blast furnace areas. Despite the fire and brimstone aesthetics, it's one of the happiest workforce’s I've ever met. Everyone we spoke to was incredibly enthusiastic and passionate about the steel making process.
I was escorted through the different areas of the steelworks by a knowledgeable guide, who explained the various processes involved in creating steel. The sheer scale of the operation was impressive, with huge machines and conveyor belts moving the steel at a rapid pace. After witnessing the process from start to finish, I left the steelworks with a newfound appreciation for the hard work and dedication that goes into creating this essential material. It was a fascinating and educational experience.
