The Fashion School | Caroline Gration
My portraits of Caroline Gration, founder of The Fashion School in London. This is one of those shoots that unfortunately, and as far as I know, never saw the light of day. But I love the portraits and I'm airing them here on Instagram.
James May | The Sunday Times Magazine
Welcome all to 2023, the future! For my first post of the year - A quick harp-back to the heady days of Christmas 2022 and my Christmassy themed day with lovely bloke James May at his pub the Royal Oak in Swallowcliffe. I failed to post this at the time of publication, too many mince pies, but we're here now.
Billy Connolly | BBC MAESTRO
Billy Connolly photographed at the beautiful Teatru Astra on the Maltese island of Gozo, in what is looking to be a likely win for favourite commission of 2022. Billy lives on Gozo for part of the year and the lovely team at BBC Maestro sent me along to capture key portraits whilst he was recording his new masterclass. The Big Yin did not disappoint, I was struck by his down-to-earth personality and his genuine warmth. He was just as funny and engaging in person as he is on stage, and it was an absolute pleasure to meet him at the grand age of 80,
Tata Steel Works
The imposing Tata Steel site at Port Talbot, Photographed for the FT a few weeks back. I couldn't help but notice the Mordor similarities, especially within the blast furnace areas. Despite the fire and brimstone aesthetics, it's one of the happiest workforces I've ever met. Everyone we spoke to was incredibly enthusiastic and passionate about the steel making process.
Ellis Genge | England Rugby
Ellis Genge of England and Bristol Bears Rugby fame took me and writer Alex Lowe on a tour of his old stomping ground, Knowle West in Bristol. Including the old community centre in the first picture where he held a few teenage birthday parties. Ellis spoke candidly about how rugby saved him from a certain type of life and how this part of Bristol made him.
Oatly | Melvin Young
Recent work for @oatly and Hey Barista - Musician and producer Melvin Young. Melvin is a jazz guitarist, he also remixes and covers video-game music under the alias Mesmonium. We spent a fun afternoon firing up some classic Nintendo games, with Melvin jamming along on his bass guitar.
Wiltshire Police | Sunday Times Magazine
Never has running through the streets of Swindon at 4am with heavy cameras been so exhilarating! Writer Steve Boggan and I pulled an all-nighter (and some) with Wiltshire Police for this feature focussed on the challenges facing modern policing. It was an eye opening experience and a fantastic read from Steve. The overt hostility (from the public), the paperwork and the under-resourcing appeared extremely difficult and demanding for the officers we spent time with. They were all clearly dedicated and doing their very best under these trying circumstances.
Naked Dresses | Danielle Notaro
Founder and CEO of Naked Dresses, Danielle Notaro photographed at her home for Primer Magazine
Freddie Flintoff / The Sunday Times Magazine
Freddie Flintoff photographed somewhere in a forest in Snowdonia. Freddie was there filming an outdoor camping segment for a new TV show. Working against the light as it dropped and trying to find a flat spot to get a colorama up presented a few challenges. Luckily I bumped into a lovely chap called Andy, an off duty fireman who rigged up a safety access rope and helped me shift my kit down the steep banks of the valley.
